The watershed the wetlands of the Intracoastal Waterway are in is called Pee Dee Watershed. Due to the topography of the land and being level with the sea, we are prone to flooding. North Carolina is at a higher elevation than the Grand Strand region of South Carolina, so therefore, water flows down the slope toward the sea.
